DeKalb voters renewed the 1-cent school sales tax with 81%, unofficial results show. Dunwoody's 13 precincts voted 74% yes. How Dunwoody voted on every race.

DeKalb County voters renewed the 1-cent sales tax for school buildings on Tuesday. E-SPLOST VII passed with 81% of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State.

Dunwoody backed it too, by a smaller margin. In the 13 precincts that vote at polling places in Dunwoody, 74% voted yes.

All 191 DeKalb precincts had reported by Wednesday morning. The results are unofficial until the county certifies them. The full count is on the state’s election results page.

The school sales tax

Countywide, 233,691 people voted yes and 54,760 voted no.

The tax runs from July 1, 2027, to June 30, 2032. It can raise up to $946,773,776 for the DeKalb County School District, which runs all of Dunwoody’s public schools. It replaces E-SPLOST VI at the same rate, so the sales tax you pay does not change. Our story before the vote explains the ballot question in full.

Superintendent Norman C. Sauce III thanked voters in a message on the district’s website on Wednesday. He wrote of “an overwhelming 81% of voters approving E-SPLOST VII.” He said the district would put its most critical needs first. He gave no timeline.

The 81% matches the share that approved E-SPLOST VI in November 2021, according to the district.

What it means for you

  • Your sales tax rate does not change. E-SPLOST VII picks up where E-SPLOST VI ends on June 30, 2027.
  • There is still no list of projects for Dunwoody schools. The district’s E-SPLOST page says the Board of Education “is currently considering E-SPLOST projects.” We will report the list for Dunwoody High, Peachtree Middle and the six elementary schools when the board publishes it.
  • Borrowing needs another vote. The yes vote allows up to $500 million in bonds. The board must vote again before it issues any, the district said.
  • Results are unofficial. Georgia counties certify results in the days after the election. Any runoff would be held Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Dunwoody’s own city elections are held in odd-numbered years. For the schools themselves, see our guide to Dunwoody’s public schools.
