Pick any street, stream or common area and clear the trash on Saturday, Nov. 14, sunrise to sunset, rain or shine. Here is how to register with the city.
Dunwoody’s citywide litter pickup, the #GreatDunwoodyCleanup, runs all day Saturday, Nov. 14. Anyone can take part, alone or as a group, and the city is taking sign-ups now.
The city announced the date in a news release on Oct. 14. It invites individuals, families, neighbors, teams, schools and civic groups. The cleanup runs rain or shine from sunrise to sundown.
Why the city runs it
The aim is to pick up trash before it washes into storm drains and on into Dunwoody’s creeks. The city’s stormwater team organizes it.
“When volunteers clear trash before it reaches a storm drain, they’re directly preventing pollution in our creeks,” Stormwater Manager Cody Dallas said in the release.
How to take part
The city’s release sets out three steps:
- Pick a spot in Dunwoody. A street, a stream, a neighborhood common area or a patch of woods all count.
- Register your plan on the #GreatDunwoodyCleanup sign-up page, so the stormwater team can see which areas are covered.
- Share photos on Nov. 14 with the hashtag #GreatDunwoodyCleanup, or email them to communications@dunwoodyga.gov.
The sign-up form asks for your name and email, the name of your group and how many people are coming, and where you plan to clean. The city’s examples are Shadow Lane, Village Mill and Nancy Creek.
A ready-made project at Kingsley Elementary
If you prefer to join an organized group, the city’s page points to one. The Kingsley Elementary School PTO is asking volunteers to pick up trash and debris on the school grounds and to tidy the school’s Turtle Garden. Sign up for the Kingsley cleanup through the PTO’s form.
