Opening a business in Dunwoody

Every business in the city needs a current occupational tax certificate, commonly called a business license, and some need more, according to the city’s licensing page:

  • Alcohol: any business selling or serving alcohol needs a city alcohol privilege license. The city holds an alcohol license renewal open house from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.
  • Fingerprinting for alcohol, massage, pouring and solicitor permits is by appointment only.
  • Late payments draw a 10% penalty and 1% interest every 30 days, the city says.
  • Location: zoning and building permits come first; see our building permits and zoning guide. The city’s small business guide walks through the steps.
